Black Butte Ranch Wedding in Sisters, Oregon
Black Butte Ranch Wedding in Sisters, Oregon
If you’re planning a Black Butte Ranch wedding, you’re in a pretty incredible spot. This place captures everything people love about Central Oregon. Wide mountain views, tall pines, golden evening light, and enough space to turn your wedding into a full weekend instead of just a few hours.
Black Butte Ranch sits just outside the town of Sisters and about 30 minutes from Bend. The property stretches across thousands of acres with golf courses, lakes, forest trails, and open meadows, all with the Cascade Mountains rising up in the distance. It’s the kind of setting where guests immediately feel like they’re on vacation. That atmosphere changes the whole tone of a wedding weekend.
The wedding I filmed here started a little differently than most traditional weddings. The couple chose to exchange private vows earlier in the day surrounded by the mountains near Bend. We spent the morning at Sparks Lake and hiked up Mount Tumalo for an intimate elopement moment with just the two of them. It was quiet, emotional, and incredibly beautiful. Later in the day they gathered with friends and family at Black Butte Ranch for their ceremony and reception. It was a great example of how couples can combine an adventurous elopement moment with a fun celebration with their people.
About Black Butte Ranch
Black Butte Ranch is a private resort community surrounded by some of the most iconic scenery in Oregon. The ranch sits between Sisters and the Cascade Mountains, which means the landscape shifts constantly between forest, open pasture, and mountain views.
One of the biggest reasons to choose Black Butte Ranch is that it works perfectly as a destination wedding location without requiring travel to a remote area. Guests can stay right on the property in cabins, vacation homes, or nearby lodging. Instead of driving in for a ceremony and leaving right afterward, everyone can spend the entire weekend together.
Activities are everywhere. Golf courses, horseback riding, biking trails, lakes, and pools make it easy for guests to fill the days around the wedding. A lot of couples host welcome dinners, group bike rides, or casual brunches the morning after the wedding. The ranch is built for that kind of experience.
If you’re exploring other Central Oregon wedding venues, you might also want to check out my Brasada Ranch Wedding Blog. Brasada Ranch has a different landscape with more high desert terrain, but it offers a similar destination-style experience where guests stay onsite and celebrate for an entire weekend.
Ceremony Locations at Black Butte Ranch
Black Butte Ranch offers a lot of ceremony locations across the property, each with its own personality and backdrop.
Lakeside Meadow
Lakeside Meadow is one of the most popular ceremony sites on the ranch. It sits beside the water with mountain views in the distance and tall trees framing the ceremony space. The setting feels open and peaceful while still being organized and easy for guests to navigate.
This location works especially well for larger weddings because the layout gives plenty of space for seating while still feeling connected to the surrounding nature.
The Lodge Lawn
The Lodge Lawn offers a classic Central Oregon backdrop. The lawn sits near the main lodge with views of Black Butte and the surrounding peaks. This area works well for couples who want ceremony and reception spaces close together so the day flows easily for guests.
The lawn also provides plenty of room for cocktail hour and outdoor mingling while still keeping everything within walking distance.
Glaze Meadow
Glaze Meadow offers a more tucked-away forest atmosphere. Surrounded by tall pines and open meadow space, it creates a slightly more secluded feel while still offering great space for larger events.
Each ceremony location offers a different combination of mountain views, trees, and open space, so you can choose the one that best fits your vision and guest count.
Reception Spaces and Guest Experience
A lot of couples who get married at Black Butte Ranch host their reception onsite as well. The venue offers a ton of event spaces that allow guests to move naturally between indoor and outdoor areas throughout the evening.
Because so many guests stay on the ranch itself, the entire day tends to feel relaxed. Friends and family can explore the property, ride bikes, play golf, or just spend time together around the cabins before and after the wedding.
One of the most special parts of the wedding I filmed here was how intentional the couple was about spending time with their people. After sharing a quiet morning together in the mountains, they gathered everyone at the ranch for a really beautiful ceremony surrounded by friends and family.
Between The Pine captured some incredible photos of both parts of the day, from the quiet mountain moments earlier in the morning to the ceremony at the ranch.
Catering and Dining Options
Black Butte Ranch offers a ton of catering options for weddings depending on the style of event you’re planning.
A lot of couples work with the ranch’s in-house team, which simplifies coordination and ensures everything runs smoothly with the venue timeline. Menus often highlight seasonal ingredients and locally inspired cuisine that fits the Central Oregon setting.
Dining styles can range from plated meals to buffet service or family-style dinners depending on the size and atmosphere of the wedding. Cocktail hours often feature passed appetizers and outdoor bar setups, which pair perfectly with the mountain views and open air of the property.
If you’re planning a full wedding weekend, welcome dinners and farewell brunches can also be arranged onsite. Keeping these events on property helps guests settle in and enjoy the entire experience instead of rushing between locations.
Pricing and Booking Information
Black Butte Ranch weddings vary depending on season, guest count, and which event spaces you reserve. Because it is a resort property with extensive amenities, pricing reflects the destination-style experience it offers.
The most popular wedding season in Central Oregon runs from late spring through early fall, particularly June through September when weather is warm and predictable.
Couples typically book dates well in advance, especially for summer weekends. Venue rental generally includes access to ceremony locations, reception space, and coordination with the ranch event team. Catering and additional services are added depending on your specific vision for your wedding.
The major advantage of Black Butte Ranch is convenience. Lodging, recreation, and event spaces all exist within the same property, which reduces transportation logistics and makes the entire weekend flow more easily.
Planning Tips for a Black Butte Ranch Wedding
Central Oregon weather is typically beautiful during wedding season, but it’s still mountain weather. Summer days are warm and dry, while evenings cool down quickly once the sun drops. If you’re planning outdoor time later in the evening, blankets or heaters can help keep everyone comfortable.
The Central Oregon sun also stays bright well into the evening during summer months. Golden hour arrives later than many couples expect, but when it does the light is incredible. Portraits during this time often end up being some of the most memorable images of the day.
Blomstra Florals absolutely crushed the florals for this wedding. The designs felt organic and seasonal, adding color and texture without overwhelming the natural landscape.
Transportation around the ranch is another fun part of the experience. Many guests ride bikes between cabins and event locations, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere that Black Butte Ranch is known for.

Videography and Storytelling at Black Butte Ranch
From a filmmaking perspective, Black Butte Ranch offers an incredible mix of wide landscape views and quiet natural moments. The mountains, meadows, and forest paths create a setting that feels cinematic without needing much production. It’s also close to so many adventurous areas to explore that can really pop during an Adventure Session.
The story of this particular wedding worked beautifully because it balanced adventure and connection. The couple shared their vows privately earlier in the mountains, then gathered everyone they love for a meaningful ceremony at the ranch. We also did an Adventure Session at Sahalie Falls which was so much fun and made their wedding film feel so dynamic with all these stunning locations.
